I recently needed to find a "ductless way" to cool and heat a very large addition to my house. I knew nothing about the current technology, but was able to utilize your GREAT site information to decide on the Sanyo 16 SEER 410A AC/Heat Pump unit. It was a perfect solution for my "add-on" problem.

During the entire process, I received probably the very best customer service that I have encountered in all my years of doing business. A gentleman named Ken was able to answer all of my questions in the most knowledgeable and friendly manner.

A definite 10 on a 1-10 scale !!!

This is a great product. It is extremely quiet and ultra-efficient. It's installed in the master bedroom suite. We turn it on, close the door, and in 20 minutes, that part of the house is wonderfully cool. The unit also has 2 washable air filters. Ken in customer assistance is always available, very knowledgeable, and pleasant to talk to. Many HVAC people we talked to wouldn't install units they didn't sell, but on Ken's recommendation we found someone decent, who charged $775 (we supplied the slab).

This unit has totally changed the way I work. I can work in comfort all day long. I have a home office and I have a terrible problem with a room full of computer equipment, a west facing office & no shade. The Afternoons would just about do me in. I tried keeping the house air conditioning cool enough to keep my office cool but that was costing me a fortune, and was really a waste, since I spent most of my day in my office. I went a whole week without running the house air at all after my install but still enjoyed the cool office. Since it has been hotter here I have had to run the house air but still not nearly as much. The folks I have worked with at Ductless Mini Split systems have been great. They have answered all my questions and have been there to help both myself and my own AC guy with some install and general operation questions, and that was on a Saturday afternoon in Fresno, CA. I truly enjoy working with professionals who take care of their customers like they do, and I have had quite a few in the past that never see another transaction from me again, not so with these guys.Ken has been a great help. I just want to say thanks again and I hope that things go well for you.Dave Donathan, Donathan ConsultingFresno, CA

I bought 3 units from this company in May and I love them. They are efficient and quiet. I live in Texas and it has been extremely hot this summer and the units have kept our home very cool. If I ever have any questions about our units, Ken is the guy with all the answers. It is NOT a sale and forget you type operation. Ken is there any time I call to answer questions. I recommend the mini-split systems completely.

The unit works awesome, it's much quiter than traditional split system or heat pump units and the room feels much more comfortable. We live in Arizona where it's been reaching 110 degrees. We hooked up the unit and in 20 minutes our new master bedroom was cooled to 72 degrees, amazing. This was accomplished with much less energy than a traditional system. I strongly recommend the unit and Ductless HVAC Supply. The service and support I received throughout my purchase and installation was superb.

This unit has been great. Its very quiet and keeps the upstairs very kewl. In fact I think it does a better job than the central air does downstairs. It was also pretty easy to install. Only thing I had to do was have a technician come out to test and finish final hookup. Also Ken from mimisplitsystems.com was great as answering my questions before I bought it, and questions while I was installing it. I would not hessitate to purchase another one of these systems from Ken.

Excellent product even has ionizer built in which was a surprise for me and the custumer. As a state licensed mechanical contractor, I look for a product that will perform in both looks and energy performance. With this unit the customer will not even realize it on their electric bill due to the low power comsuption. Ken is easy to deal with and understanding of my needs. He will take the time to help pick out exactly what I need for the job at hand. I look foward to working with Ken in the future. Michael C. Gioioso MGM A/C

These Sanyo units are everything Ken, the owner of this business, said they were. Ken knows HVAC and ductless. I sent him pictures of my home and room descriptions and he sized each compressor and air handler perfectly for the size and heat exposure of each room. We bought 2... a Sanyo 3 zone and a Sanyo 4 zone. He knows his stuff. It was difficult for me here in NJ to find an HVAC guy who knew the intricacies of R410A refrigerant that these new Sanyo units use, you have to find someone who does commercial as well as residential, something I discovered too late, but I found someone who said he was going to school in a few weeks and knew enough to vacuum and charge them. Ken gave him advice but my HVAC guy didn't heed Ken because my HVAC guy he cut his teeth on the R22 units, very good, but different, less efficient and old generation, and the result cost me two more visits and more money. The point: LISTEN TO KEN. He's honest, gives great advice and knows what he's talking about. And Sanyo tech support confirmed everything Ken told us. My HVAC guy thought both Ken and Sanyo were nuts, but my local guy had to eat some humble pie when they were right! Ken knows HVAC, how to size the units, and understands these new Sanyo R410A units. I don't care whether you have forced central air ducts or not, these out perform central air by a wide margin for lots of reasons. You can zone each air handler, you can clean each air handler filter, the air from each units stays in the local area, you can set the temperature of each zone individually so that either the efficient cooling or heating kicks in just like central air, you can close a door and shut a zone off if you don't use that zone, and, the air handlers and compressor are so quiet you won't know they are around. Great value, great vendor, great tech support.

SANYO's Ductless Split Air Conditioner & Heat Pump products offer wide versatility in solving your cooling and heating requirements. The Indoor unit (evaporator) is mounted inside the room, enclosed in a handsome space saving cabinet. It is connected to the outdoor unit (condenser) via refrigerant lines & inter-unit wiring through a 3 1/2" opening in the wall. Since no ductwork is required, installation is simple. fast & efficient. There is no need to use up window space or cut large openings in existing walls, which could undermine the integrity of your structure, and even pose security risks. Since the SANYO-manufactured Rotary compressor is located in the outdoor unit, compressor operating noise is virtually eliminated from the indoor. The indoor unit has been uniquely designed to provide Whisper Quiet operation while delivering comfort throughout the room(s). In addition, SANYO-perfected rotary compressors provide efficient, powerful cooling at the lowest noise levels in the industry.

DC INVERTER is outstanding for it's rapid COOLING and HEATING POWER.
AS soon as the temperature is reached, it automatically adjusts current frequency temperature fluctuation. It also provides "ENERGY-SAVINGS" (which saves your electricity charges) as well as "QUIETER OPERATION"

Sanyo's 16 SEER multi-inverter compressor can handle up to 135% of its rated capacity and up to 4 indoor evaporator units of any combination.
For Example: A- 24K btu tri-zone system (3 indoor units) + (1-outdoor unit), can use 1-18K btu indoor unit and 2-7K btu indoor units. This can be accomplished with any combination of indoor units to meet the flexibility of your installation. Sanyo's variable speed compressor speed modulates and produces exactly what it needs for each indoor unit at any given moment! Return to Home Page

Taking inverter technology to a new level of comfort

An Inverter compressor is designed to vary it's speed as the demands in the room change. Inverter compressors are designed to soft start therefore causing no dips in power supply.
Single phase AC power is supplied to the outdoor unit where it is rectified and converted into DC. The input frequency is then modified to allow the compressor to run at a variety of speeds. As the compressor speed decreases, the amount of refrigerant entering the indoor unit also decreases. This results in a more comfortable environment as the unit only produces the appropriate amount of cooling or heating required at that time - no more temperature swings.

Inverter compressors have been shown to reduce power consumption by as much as 60% when compared to conventional fixed speed equivalents.

The SPW DC inverters use Advanced Digital Hybrid (ADH) technology for better, smarter and more cost-efficient yearround climate control. Immediately following start up, the DC compressor operates at maximum power to provide almost instant heating or cooling. As the desired air temperature is reached, a special Pulse Width Module automatically adjusts the compressor's frequency to exactly meet the cooling or heating requirements of the room. The result is exceptionally precise temperature control, less noise and significant energy savings.

The DC motor uses powerful Neodymium magnets, which are approximately 15-20 times stronger than the ferrite magnets used in conventional AC compressors. This, combined with precise digital control gives the SANYO DC compressor an operation rate of 15-20% higher than that of a conventional AC compressor.

The SPW outdoor units utilise the latest SANYO twin rotary compressor in which perfectly balanced dual rotors revolve smoothly and efficiently to provide powerful, quiet and vibration free performance.

Ductless, mini-split air conditioners (mini splits) make good retrofit add-ons to houses with "non-ducted" heating systems, such as hydronic (hot water heat), radiant panels, and space heaters (wood, kerosene, propane). They can also be a good choice for room additions, where extending or installing distribution ductwork is not feasible.

Like standard air-source air conditioners, mini splits have two main components: an outdoor compressor/condenser, and an indoor air-handling unit. A conduit, which houses the power cable, refrigerant tubing, suction tubing, and a condensate drain, links the outdoor and indoor units

Advantages

The main advantages of mini splits are their small size and flexibility for zoning or heating and cooling individual rooms. Many models can have as many as four indoor air handling units (for four zones or rooms) connected to one outdoor unit. The number depends on how much heating or cooling is required for the building or each zone (which in turn is affected by how well the building is insulated). Since each of the zones will have its own thermostat, you only need to condition that place when someone is there. This will save energy and money.

Ductless mini-split systems are also often easier to install than other types of space conditioning systems. For example, the hook-up between the outdoor and indoor units generally requires only a three-inch hole through a wall for the conduit. Also, most manufacturers of this type of system can provide a variety of lengths of connecting conduits. If necessary, you can locate the outdoor unit as far away as 50 feet from the indoor evaporator. This makes it possible to cool rooms on the front side of a building house with the compressor in a more advantageous or inconspicuous place on the outside of the building.

Since mini splits have no ducts, they avoid the energy losses associated with ductwork of central forced air systems. Duct losses can account for more than 30% of energy consumption for space conditioning, especially if the ducts are in an unconditioned space such as an attic.

In comparison to other add-on systems, mini splits offer more flexibility in interior design options. The indoor air handlers can be suspended from a ceiling, mounted flush into a drop ceiling, or hung on a wall. Floor-standing models are also available. Most indoor units have profiles of about seven inches deep and usually come with sleek, high tech-looking jackets. Many also offer a remote control to make it easier to turn the system on and off when it's positioned high on a wall or suspended from a ceiling.

Split-systems can also help to keep your home safer since there is only a small hole in the wall. Through-the-wall and window mounted room air-conditioners can provide an easy entrance for intruders. Return to Home Page

Disadvantages

The primary disadvantage of mini splits is their cost. Such systems cost about $1,500–$2,000 per ton (12,000 Btu per hour) of cooling capacity. This is about 30% more than central systems (not including ductwork) and may cost twice as much as window units of similar capacity.

The installer must also correctly size each indoor unit and judge the best location for its installation. Oversized or incorrectly located air-handlers often result in short-cycling, which wastes energy and does not provide proper temperature or humidity control. Too large a system is also more expensive to buy and operate.

Some people may not like the appearance of the indoor part of the system. While less obtrusive than a window room air conditioner, they seldom have the built-in look of a central system. There must also be a place to drain condensate water near the outdoor unit.

Qualified installers and service people for mini splits may not be easy to find. In addition, most conventional heating and cooling contractors have large investments in tools and training for sheet metal duct systems. They need to use (and charge for) these to earn a return on their investment, so they may not recommend ductless systems except where a ducted system would be difficult for them to install.
